"LUNHAW FESTIVAL: HONORING THE HEART OF AGRICULTURE"
One of the municipalities in the province of Negros
Oriental, Mabinay, is endowed with an abundance of agricultural resources,
which offers residents, particularly those residing in rural regions, the
opportunity to pursue an agribusiness that could change their lives. The
primary means of subsistence for most people, particularly those living in
rural areas, is the production of rice, sugarcane, fruits, vegetables,
coconuts, and a host of other goods. The second Lunhaw Festival, an eight-day
commemoration of Mabinay's dedication to helping its farmers, was exhibited by
the Municipality of Mabinay. A showcase of recently gathered fruits and vegetables
added to the festival's opening charm. The celebration was also made to be
remembered by competitions for the horseback riding, OPM contest, Lunhaw Queen,
Lunhaw King, Pinaka, Lunhaw Garden, and other categories. The festivities began
with a motorcade, followed by Thanksgiving services. Following the official
opening of the farmers' fair and other festivities, hundreds of farmers from
the municipality's 32 barangays participated. Mayor Ernie T. Uy praised the
entire team for making the event possible, but notably our municipal
agriculturist, Mrs. Lelanie Malacapay. He continued, "Our farmers really
deserve to be honored because they are the backbone of our economy." The
unique Lunhaw Festival took place in Mabinay on September 4-8, 2024. Come enjoy
the fact that our municipality greatly values producers, landowners, and
farmers, considering them to be the foundation of the regional economy.
